What’s next?

February 4, 2010

It has been a few days since the concert, and thanks to all of you who sent me emails and left messages on Facebook and on my website, we are all still feeling pretty good :-)  (So please keep those messages, comments and emails coming!! :-D )

Every once in a while life grants us the luxury of experiencing something special, and this was definitely one of those moments.  Not because of what we did on stage, but because of your support and your generosity in your words of encouragement.

A number of people have asked me what’s next.  Like I said in my last post, who knows?   At this point, I am planning to take some down time over the next few months to get back to some of the things I really enjoy but have put aside for a while in preparing for the concert:

  • I want to be more disciplined in writing here on my website.  I have always enjoyed writing, and I want to take some time to think, to reflect, to dream and humbly share with you what I learned about things that truly matter in life.
  • I want to spend time with my bandmates and teammates.  We have all been so busy leading up to the concert.  I want to take time to connect with them deeper as friends.
  • I want to spend more time with my guitar and writing music.  Even though in the past few months I spent hours and hours playing in rehearsal, whenever I pick up the instrument by myself it seemed to prompt me, “there are songs in your soul that truly are your own voice…songs that tell your story, songs about who you are.   Let me bring it out of you.”   I cannot wait to see where those six strings will lead me in the next little while!

And of course, it goes without saying that we’ll make sure to spend more time together as a family.  It’ll be nice to be able to take our time after Taylor’s skating lessons and not have to rush back for rehearsal =)

There were many who had expressed interest in coming to the concert but were not able to get tickets because we had sold out.  We briefly thought about adding a second show but logistically just couldn’t pull it off with such last minute notice.   I really hope to do something again perhaps later this year.  But it will happen only if I feel I have again a fresh message to share.  That hopefully with new reflection, new thinking, new music will come a message, a voice that speaks to new hope.  If  we do it, we will surely announce it well ahead of time so people will have ample opportunities to get tickets.

Thank you again, all of you for your support.  May I leave you with one of the  comments that I received that encouraged me more than you can imagine.  It was actually posted here as a public, open comment to my previous post.  I thought I’d paste it here for you…

“Music has the healing power, it was my first time truly experienced it, in your concert.  Your very first song hit my heart already.  Along the years, I’ve been striking for success at work, being a good Christian…so concerned about others’ recognition.  I’ve been crawling…..but what I’m really looking for, what can fulfill my soul is the true and unconditional love. I’m so blessed that I’ve received such unconditional love from my parents; however, I’m so reluctant to give the love back. God is love. I’ll let him to work through me again.  Like how he worked through you to heal other people in your concert.  Thanks to you and our Lord!!”

May this bring encouragement to ALL of us involved with the concert.  Because it was truly OUR concert, together.

May all of us continue to learn, to grow, to love, and in the process, to heal.

P.S. For those interested in seeing pictures from the concert, here are a few links to Facebook albums taken by my friends:

Dear Alfred,

No matter how busy I am, I will stop by your website once awhile and love to see your smiling face in your photos.

Keep going, life is beautiful after all because life can be beautiful and we are the one who can make it beautiful. From you smile, from your photos, from your sharings, I know you have made many lives more beautiful. Once again, keep going.

Life doesn’t depend on what has gone by nor where we are but what is ahead, there are many people waiting for you somewhere out there, find them and touch them.

I am facing my own battle, it is not easy to do what you know or think is right. People will look at you differently but your conviction will keep you going, saying what you should and doing what you could.

Let’s continue to move on in our life even though we might be in different area at different time and doing things in a different way but we are all together working for the same purpose and that is to make life more beautiful.

Let’s have coffee (I will have juice as usual) sometime someday same place!

Bill
